Green Homes Colorado

home

The USGBC Colorado Chapter is working with a diverse group of stakeholders at the state and local level to promote the adopotion of high performance green homes principles

Our focus includes the full spectrum of residential building types: new home construction and existing home renovation; single-family homes and multi-family buildings; luxury, market rate and affordable.

We define ' high performance green home' as those that use less energy, water and natural resources, create less waste and are healthier for the people living inside compared to a standard home.

In the coming months, the Green Residential Building Advocacy Committee will identify additional key partners, venues and platforms to promote high performance green homes practices.

The Problem

  • Buildings account for nearly 40% of total U.S. energy consumption; residential buildings
account for nearly 55% of that total. By by 2010 residential energy use is expected to be 9%
    higher than 2007 levels
  • The residential sector is responsible for 21% of the nation's carbon dioxide emissions
  • Building occupants use 12.2% of the total water consumed in the U.S. every day, 74.4%
of which is used for residential needs
  • 43% of total building-related construction and demolotion debris is generated from residential sources

The Benefits of a Green Home Home2

There are many very real benefits to living in a green home. They are typically safer, healthier, more comfortable, and more durable than conventional homes.

The benefits includelower energy and
water bills; environmental benefits like reduced greenhouse gas emissions; and health benefits such as reduced exposure to mold, mildew and other indoor toxins.
