Green IT- Passing Fad or New Reality
Is Green IT a “sustainable” trend and can it actually save my organization money and truly help the environment? The answer is YES! Finding ways to make the acquisition, management and disposal of technology assets more eco-efficient and eco-friendly is a sure fire way to create cost savings. In this session, you will learn to assess “how Green you really are” and discover new ways to make all aspects of your technology processes more efficient. Specific topic areas include:
• Organizational commitment to Green IT – what does this mean and why is it important?
• Buying Green Technology – what to look for
• Strategies to reduce data center costs – where do I focus?
• System development and computing infrastructure; eco-efficient management approaches
• Technology asset recycling and disposal - learn how an eco-friendly approach can maximize the financial value and minimize environmental impact of technology disposal
• Understand what successful companies are doing with Green IT and the resulting benefits.
Efficient Lighting through Integrated Design: This will focus on a holistic approach to designing efficient lighting systems. In designing high performance lighting systems, the balance between energy efficiency and a high quality visual environment can be difficult to design as building form, surface reflectance, daylighting and lighting controls all play a major role in energy efficiency. We will outline the areas that should be addressed to achieve an efficient, yet high quality visual environment. The presentation will conclude with a discussion on what to watch for when evaluating LED technologies.
