The Historic Villagra Building is home to the New Mexico Attorney General’s Office in the State Capitol Complex in Santa Fe. It was the first LEED-Gold and first public building in New Mexico to achieve LEED certification, preceding Governor Richardson’s LEED mandate.
Our team achieved 31% improved energy performance despite making no alterations to the exterior walls or roof, and being required to keep the original double-hung, single pane windows.
This major renovation consisted of a first-time LEED team, a late commitment to LEED, and with no formal project architect. The contractor, mechanical engineer and I, the LEED Consultant and Project Manager, teamed up to make it a success. Our commitment carried the project through against all odds.
The National Preservation Institute has featured this LEED Gold building and the USGBC has selected it as a “one of the most successful LEED projects” in the Government Sector.
