The Economics of Going GreenChapter UpdatesBy Deb Kleinman, Executive Director, USGBC Colorado Chapter
I’d like to extend my congratulations and welcome to the three individuals joining our Board in January 2009: Clay Benson, Julie Edwards, and Mike Kolesar. I look forward to working with each of these remarkable individuals as the Chapter continues to grow and diversify.
“Retiring” Board Members It never ceases to amaze me how much time, passion and dedication our board dedicates to the organization. I would like to thank the following individuals who have contributes so much to the Chapter in 2008 – I know that while we won’t see them as frequently at monthly board meetings, they will continue to be a powerful presence in the Colorado Chapter: Tom Hootman, Board Chair, RNL Daniele Loffreda, Communications Chair, Plateau Environmental Associates Conor Merrigan, Emerging Green Builders Chair, YRG Sustainability Consultants
Green Building in 2009 Even in these uncertain times, the Colorado Chapter is looking forward to an exciting year. Three of the planned six local branches are now up and running, and providing regular education and networking opportunities up and down the front range. Planning for our statewide conference is underway, and this major event is scheduled for May 4-6 in Denver. Our already successful Colorado Green Schools Initiative will continue to grow and thrive, and plans are in the works to launch several other major initiatives. We are looking to produce more green building publications and tools; provide more workshops,
seminars and trainings the traditional way and using the tools of the 21st century; and working with our many partners public, private, and non-profit to transform Colorado’s built environment. Many thanks to each and every one of you for helping to grow Colorado’s green building community. Particular thanks to those individuals too numerous to name here, who have touched my life and our community through your words, deeds, actions, and most importantly support and friendship. Wishing each of you a season filled with joy and peace, and a new year filled with green dreams fulfilled. “For last year's words belong to last year's language. And next year's words await another voice. And to make an end is to make a beginning.”
