Denver Metro Steering Committee’s Education Efforts Pay Off

Denver Metro Steering First Monday Speakers Series  A Huge Success!

By Emilie Baratta

People Clapping

The Denver Metro Steering Committee’s Education efforts are paying off in a big way! Its First Monday Speakers Series returned from summer with renewed energy, raising awareness about the importance of a sustainable built environment and increasing knowledge on how to green existing and future buildings and communities:

  • Eighty people attended October’s “Financing Green Building,” which identified financial incentives to offset the first-costs of ‘going green;
  • A joint USGBC-ASHRAE event in November helped participants better understand how to use ‘green’ to facilitate cooperation amongst the different disciplines involved in conceiving, designing and building green projects;
  • And 60 attendees flocked to December’s event on how to (and why) commission new and existing buildings.

The Education Committee has grown to ten people, which should be enough to expand its educational programming. Keep an eye out for:

  • Events around town – including Stapleton, the Tech Center and Boulder
  • Brown bags lunch series and breakfastsBrown Bag Lunch
  • Podcasts
  • Half-day conferences

A special thanks to REI for continuing to donate their terrific conference space for our First Monday Speakers Series!
