Mid-level Green Building Engineer
The Brendle Group, Inc. seeks a mid-level green building engineer for projects related to sustainable design assistance for commercial and residential customers. The position would include design assistance, energy modeling, and LEEDTM services for new construction and existing buildings. Customer service, including strong client communication, project management, and execution on project deliverables is required. The ability to integrate green building with customers’ broader sustainability goals is desired.
Position Responsibilities
• Engage with clients to assess project needs, timelines and overall green building and energy performance goals
• Inform clients of overall benefits and challenges of green building and project management strategies for addressing green building in project execution
• Evaluate costs/benefits of certification programs such as, but not limited to, LEED
• Organize and facilitate design charrettes and other integrated design approaches
• Provide design assistance to the customer and design team
• Conduct energy modeling to support informed decision-making during design and to support LEED application, where applicable
• Prepare written reports communicating modeling results and design recommendations with estimated cost/benefits analyzed for different design scenarios
Required Qualifications and Experience
• B.S. or equivalent in mechanical engineering or related discipline with 2 years professional experience
• LEEDTM accredited professional
• Experience supporting LEED projects from pre-design planning through certification
• Familiarity with energy modeling process and desire to develop simulation software capacity
• Understanding of integrated building design processes and approaches
• Thorough knowledge of PC-based software applications
• Strong verbal communication and writing skills
Preferred Qualifications and Experience
• Ability to execute on project management within a given time frame and budget
• Desire to work towards a Professional Engineering license
• Experience with DOE-2 analysis and programs for both commercial and residential applications, such as eQuest, REM/Rate ™
• Familiarity with building codes and standards
• Ability to integrate green building with broader sustainability goals
• Proven experience in effective group facilitation
• Related building system (HVAC, lighting, etc.) design experience
• Current working knowledge of Colorado green building field (marketplace opportunities, rebate programs, etc.)
• Interest in extrapolating project-level experience to green building programs for public-sector customers, including training and green building resource development and delivery
